Installing Android-studio on Ubuntu 16.04

Having built a prototype Android app several years ago, I decided to see what it would take to install a Android IDE on Ubuntu since the ADT for Eclipse is not the preferred environment. But the the official page says my version is not supported….

So I’m trying:

  • This one works http://www.ubuntumaniac.com/2016/04/install-android-studio-20-on-ubuntu.html
  • This one has checksum errors downloading the Studio askubuntu.com
  • Doesn’t seem to work

Installing Eclipse Neon on Ubuntu 16.04

After upgrading to Ubuntu 16.04, Eclipse Mars would run “okay” but would not launch applications to run or debug.

So I downloaded the Eclipse Installer from download “neon”

By default the installer installs Eclipse in /home/USERNAME/eclipse/WHICH_ECLIPSE_VERSION. For my laptop, I let it install Eclipse there.

In /usr/share/applications, I created eclipse-neon-java.desktop:

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Eclipse-Neon-PHP
Type=Application
Exec=/home/roye/eclipse/php-neon/eclipse/eclipse
Terminal=false
Icon=/home/roye/eclipse/php-neon/eclipse/icon.xpm
Comment=Integrated Development Environment
NoDisplay=false
Categories=Development;IDE;
Name[en]=Eclipse-Neon-PHP
